Immigration – July 2018, Visa Changes

Disclaimer: I am not an immigration agent. This article is based on my personal understanding of the current law (04/07/2018). Law can change. For more information and before any decision, please consult a professional.

The law just changed and it’s now even harder to stay in Australia.

Here are the main visa changes for young Europeans

According to the government, those changes are “to better align the permanent and temporary programs”.

Permanent Residency with Points

The points threshold increased from 60 to 65 for skilled visa (independent, nominated and regional sponsored categories).

This is a big change for any European professional wanting to get a Permanent Residency here.

New Tech Visas

The Global Talen Scheme starts this month.

It aims to attract highly skilled workers to Australia’s tech industry, and consists of two streams: start-up & established business.

In a nutshell: more visas for IT people.

Skilled Occupation Lists

The SOL lists are under review with changes planned in July. Notably, 17 occupations are flagged for removal and 6 occupations (including Management Accountant) could change list.

Visa fees

A small increase as every 6/12 months.
This time, between $50 and $100 per visa.
